Leveling the Workbench with Wedges
2009.12.09
My basement floor slopes in every direction. After some fiddling with scraps and three levels, I determined that, from leg to leg, the floor drops about 3/4″ from back to front, and 1/4″ from right to left. I used store-bought shims for the back legs, but for the front I had to make wedges with about a 2° slope.
Because of all the sloping, the left front leg is now about 1–1/8″ above the floor. My workbench is wearing heels! Despite this precarious-looking footing, the workbench is surprisingly stable.

I later made some long wedges that span from front to back, rather than deal with separate wedges at each leg.
