Tool Chest
I have planned for a while to build a traditional joiner’s tool chest to store my hand tools, or at least the most useful ones. My early inspiration came from examples in Jim Tolpin’s The Toolbox Book and a small tool chest that Roy Underhill built on The Woodwright’s Shop.
I waffled between attempting a “fancy” tool chest with veneer, marquetry, french-fit drawers, etc. and a more simplified form closer to a carpenter’s chest. Considering that I’ve never done any of those fancy things before, it seemed wise to stick with the basic version. In November 2010, Chris Schwarz began documenting a tool chest build on his Lost Art Press blog. In the end I mostly followed his interpretation of old tool chests as documented in The Anarchist’s Tool Chest.
