Battens Glued and Chamfered
2016.6.26
The battens are only glued at the front, for about an inch or so. This keeps the front edges aligned, but allows the top to expand and contract towards the back. After taking off the clamps, I planed the batten endgrain down flush with the side of the top.
I penciled some guidelines and chamfered the ends of the battens.
In anticipation of applying finishes, I now had to remove all the blue tape notes to myself. To be able to identify which leg goes where, I used a chisel and mallet to strike in marks on the ends of the tenons and down inside the mortises.
