Attaching Tops and Trimming Legs

2013.11.14

I attached the tops with brass screws through the kickers, which I had already countersunk before installing.  I placed each top upside down on the workbench, carefully centered the base, and clamped it in place before installing the screws.  I put a little beeswax on the tips to help them drive through the wood.

Next I needed to trim the legs to get rid of the wobbles and set the final height.  My workbench is reasonably flat and level, but to make sure, I found a scrap of MDF and shimmed it.  Then I shimmed the legs as needed on top of the MDF, checking with a level on the top.  I used a pair of dividers to score the legs where I needed to saw.
