Drawer Runners

2013.06.21

The drawer sides and guides will be made from a piece of quartersawn maple.  I rechecked the drawer opening heights, then used the circular saw to rip the maple board a little wider than that, for a margin of safety.  Today I hand ripped the narrow piece in half to start making the drawer runners.

After some planing and a couple cuts on the miter saw, I had two drawer runners ready for fitting.  I sawed a notch to fit around the back leg, and then tweaked the other end on the shooting board until each runner fit in place.

After checking for square and flush fit, I glued the drawer runners to the aprons.

When I removed the spring clamps later, they had left impressions in the aprons.  Grrr.  I keep forgetting that alder is relatively soft.  I will use handscrews for the next one.

Today I went through the same process for the other nightstand.
