Drawer Two – Part 1

2013.09.30

Now on to the second drawer.  In documenting the first drawer, I moved around the dates a little in order to make the progression more linear: front, sides, dovetails, bottom.  For this one I will just post in the slightly more haphazard fashion that I work.

On the first drawer, I made the sides about 1/2″ thick.  I decided I would try 3/8″ on the second drawer.  The first time, I had planed a nearly 1″ board down to 1/2″, then crosscut into three pieces for the two sides and back.  But I ran into planing problems later due to reversing grain.  Since I was now going to make the sides 3/8″, I decided I would carefully chose sections to crosscut in between reversals, and resaw the sides.

Unfortunately, after planing down the resawn faces, one of the sides was closer to 5/16″.  Hm, well, maybe it’ll still work.

I moved on to the drawer bottom.  I crosscut a couple more pieces from the cedar fence board, planed them down to 3/8″, and glued them together.

Today I planed the front and back boards and fitted them into the opening.
