Beavers Bend State Park – Part Two

2012.12.19

We stopped to take a look at the horses and miniature trains at Beavers Bend Depot in the park.  During the active seasons, there are horse rides, train rides, and hay rides for kids of all ages.

The trains are based on the C. P. Huntington, a relatively small but standard-gauge steam locomotive built by Danforth, Cooke & Co. of Paterson, New Jersey in 1863.  It was used by the Central Pacific Railroad in the construction of the first transcontinental railroad.  Chance Rides began producing 24-inch-gauge gas- or diesel-powered replicas in 1960 for amusement parks and zoos around the country.

We passed by some white-tailed deer.  There are some mule deer in Oklahoma, but the white-tailed are more common.  Deer hunting is a popular sport, but the deer seem to know they are safe in the park.
