Harbor Drive - USS Midway and Maritime Museum
2010.12.27
Naturally the day I had to fly home, it was warm and sunny. We had some time before I had to go to the airport, so we took a spin down Harbor Drive. We pulled into downtown and drove down a couple or three streets in the old Gaslamp Quarter, then looped back on Harbor Drive and stopped long enough for me to snap a few photos.
The USS Midway aircraft carrier was launched in 1945, and took part in the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm. Today it is a museum.
Near where we parked, there was a larger than life statue of a famous 1945 Life magazine photograph by Alfred Eisenstaedt titled V-J Day in Times Square. Small child for scale.
Not far from the USS Midway is the Maritime Museum of San Diego.
