Oregon Garden – Wetlands

2015.05.28

A series of terraced wetlands receives treated wastewater from Silverton.  As the water filters through the wetlands, the temperature and nutrient content drop to beneficial levels before returning to the watershed.  The Oregon Garden uses some of the water for irrigation.  Because of the year-round supply of water, they do not dry out like natural wetlands, and periodically must be dredged to remove built-up sediment and plants.

While walking down a trail around the back side of the wetlands, I stumbled upon a family of ducks.  Of course they escaped to the water, and the mother really gave me a quacking.
