Port Angeles, Washington

2013.09.07

When we awoke in Port Angeles, a heavy ceiling of gray hung over our heads.  Only the last foothills of the Olympic Mountains were barely discernable, which was not encouraging for our planned trip up to Hurricane Ridge.  But we checked the webcam and found the clouds were mostly below the peaks, so we decided to go ahead.

I didn’t schedule much time to see Port Angeles, but a block from our motel was an overlook to the harbor, and we made one stop on our way out of town.

The Clallam County Courthouse was built in 1914.  The 1919 Carnegie Library is now the Clallam County Historical Museum.

Well, actually we made a second stop to fill up the tank.  Across US-101 we observed the incongruous sight of a golden elephant on the roof of what appeared to be a defunct and nondescript store.  Perhaps white would have been a more appropriate color.
