Foster Botanical Gardens
We started the next day at the Foster Botanical Gardens. The gardens began in 1853 when Queen Kalama of Hawaii leased some land to a young German doctor and botanist named William Hillebrand. About twenty years later, the property was sold to Captain Thomas and Mary Foster, who enlarged and maintained the garden. After Mrs. Foster’s death in 1930, the site became a public garden.
The Foster Gardens were pretty and peaceful, and we enjoyed a leisurely walk. I was most amazed by some of the huge trees. And there was a cute little lizard who sat still and posed for me.
