Windward and North Shore

We continued along the Windward Coast, checking out a couple nearly-deserted beaches, amazing just a few miles away from crowded Waikiki.

For lunch we stopped at probably the most unusual McDonald’s I’ve ever seen.

Waimea Beach

At Waimea Beach, we watched people line up on a large rock outcropping and dive off into the bay.

Haleiwa

We continued along the North Shore, home to some of the most popular surfing beaches in the world.  The world-reknown waves like Banzai Pipeline are much bigger in the winter months, but even in August there were people out there.

We pulled into the town of Haleiwa, where there’s a typical assortment of tourist shops, and some nice vintage cars.
