Stairways and Landing
At the lobby, across from the porte cochere entrance, is a fairly complex stairwell and landing area, with a wide central flight descending to the lower level flanked by two curved flights which rise to the main gallery level.
Above the curved stairs are curved vaulted ceilings. Maragliotti applied 24k gold leaf mosaic tiles to canvas, then painted in a Renaissance style. The stonework was by Berglund from Sweden and Pellegrini from Italy.
A larger landing area opens to the loggia, and features a staircase to the top level, as well as an elevator. There is a door connecting to the staff stairs, and another to the trunk room, where the Marlands stored their luggage.
Top Floor Landing
The barrel vaulted ceiling above the stairs and upper landing is molded plaster similar to the dining room, but with a different pattern. The walls are Italian stucco.
