North and South Salons
The north salon or sun room is one of the main spaces along the central axis of the house. Large windows and doors look out on the north terrace, gardens, and lake beyond. The south salon or living room was the main entrance for party guests. The ceilings were painted by Italian muralist Vincent Maragliotti.
Loggia
Between the two rooms is the loggia which runs from the lobby at one end of the house to the ballroom at the other. The groin vault ceilings are decorated in a style known as Chinoiserie; they were painted on canvas and then applied to the plaster ceilings.
Ballroom
The ballroom stands at the east end of the house, with a terrace once overlooking the pool. The coffered ceiling is covered with 24k gold leaf, and the Waterford crystal chandeliers, already antiques in 1928, were brought from Ireland. On the north wall around the fireplace are portraits of E.W. Marland, Lydie, and George.
