Oklahoma Centennial Land Run Monument – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

2013.12.23

The Oklahoma Centennial Land Run Monument commemorates the 1889 Land Run in Oklahoma Territory.  Begun in 2003 and scheduled for completion in 2015, it will include 45 heroic scale bronzes spread over 100 yards, making it one of the largest freestanding bronze sculptures in the world.  The sculptures stand on either side of the Bricktown Canal at the edge of the Bricktown Entertainment District in Oklahoma City.  It is an out-of-the-way location that’s easy to miss, but head for the enormous Bass Pro Shop on Reno and work your way through the overflow parking lot.  The artist is Paul Moore, an Oklahoma native.

We visited the day after an ice storm — temperature was 28 and wind chill in the teens — so a gloomy day for photographs.
