Oklahoma Territorial Museum and Carnegie Library – Guthrie, Oklahoma
2013.12.19
The Oklahoma Territorial Museum in Guthrie opened in 1973. It was built as an addition to the 1902 Carnegie Library, which is accessible through the museum. A statue in front depicts the ceremonial wedding between Mr. Oklahoma Territory and Miss Indian
Territory which took place on the library steps when Oklahoma became a state.
It’s not a large museum, but there are some interesting exhibits from the territorial days. Unfortunately, the lighting was rather dim throughout, making photography next to impossible without a flash. It seemed as though someone had neglected to turn on the main lights, so only the spotlights were shining. The only decent photo I managed was of a colorful mural.
The library was a little brighter.
