More Demolition, Part I
2007.03.22
Finally getting back around to demolition in the back room of the basement. Today I started by pulling the rest of the knotty pine boards off the west wall. Then I removed the fiberglass batt insulation…
…Revealing… wallpaper! Green paisley wallpaper, right on the bumpy concrete wall.
Then I started pulling down the stud framing. They had used a powder-actuated nailer to nail the studs to the concrete wall, but it wasn’t too hard to pry the wood off, and usually the nails along with it.
Next I began prying drywall off the center beam. Naturally, there was more knotty pine under the drywall. Man, they really loved that stuff. They even used it to frame out the windows (later painted white).
Things were going well until I was pulling nails and screws and tried to put the claw end of a hammer through my forehead.
