Repairing the Downspout
2006.09.02
With winter coming soon, I finally got around to fixing the downspout that I had hacked together last winter. I pulled off the duct tape and made a more permanent (and more appealing) connection using little white screws to hold the pieces together. I used not one, not two, but three elbows to help kick the gutter out further from the wall, and to end up at an angle that would allow me to place an extension piece on the end during heavy rains. Only the top elbow is screwed in place, the other two I just slipped on, so that I could pull them off to clean out the downspout.
I bought a plastic splashblock to replace the old concrete one, which had nearly cracked in two and was not very effective.
