Yesterday we hit 104 here in Portland, and it was still pretty hot today as well.  I ran around with Nate and Yuki in the afternoon, and among other places, we went to Portland Nursery.  After wandering around for a while, we looked at the “bargain bin” area.  They picked up a little apple tree for $10, and some kind of rose.  I saw two lilies and we decided to each get one.

So when I got home this evening, I set about planting it in the little flowerbed up front.  Don’t know if it’s going to survive, but it was only $5.  According to the tag, it is an Oriental Lily called “Siesta”, which should have yellow flowers.  Not sure when it blooms.  There aren’t any flowers now, obviously, but I do see a few green buds, so maybe it will bloom soon.

The flowerbed seems to be doing ok in general.  I’ve just about written off the Lithodoras, but I’ll wait until next spring to see if somehow they might return from the grave.  Some of the Scotch Moss has died off, but most of it is surviving.  The Pincushion Flower has always been kinda leggy and scraggly, but it does bloom, so I guess it’s alright.  The African Daisies bloom sporadically, usually just one or two at a time.  I think next spring I will add in some annuals.

Added a Delphinium and a Cornflower, which I picked up at the bargain bin at Portland Nursery.

The Lamb’s Ear is really getting big!  The African Daisies are also getting big, and blooming again.  Other plants seem to be doing well too, now that the hot summer has cooled off.
